A young married couple named Ian and Mel opened the first ever emjays coffee store on the Sunshine Coast in September 2008. Before this they owned a small coffee cart which they made coffee in every Sunday. The locals loved the coffee and the queue every Sunday began to steadily grow. Once Ian completed his business degree, the time had come to embark on a new adventure and emjays coffee was born. The loyal local clientele built up at the coffee cart gave Ian and Mel the confidence they needed to 'risk it all' and open emjays coffee in Mooloolaba. In spite of the global financial crisis and worried faces of close friends and family, emjays coffee was a huge success. Ian and Mel simply carried on doing what they do best - make amazing coffee. The local loyal clientele only increased as more people got to know how good the coffee was at emjays. Ian and Mel stuck to their principle of simply making the most excellent quality coffee every time with no exceptions. This requires skill as a barista and sourcing the best quality coffee beans, which is why in the emjays house blend they only use organic, fair trade and rainforest alliance certified beans. A little baby girl by the name of Emily was born in September 2009, and the second emjays coffee store opened in Coolum in July 2010.
Ian and Mel are now ready to share the secrets of their success with select franchise partners. They are now franchising emjays coffee with the aim of helping other couples realise their dreams of owning and operating their own coffee shop.
